Cactus and Roses is a portrait of an industrial pioneer
Kirloskar, who came from a poor background to become an
industrial legend in Maharashtra. His first product was an
iron plough, which was also the first indigenous attempt
under the British Rule. The film relates some personal
glimpses of Mr. S.L.Kirloskar's life e.g. his father's bad
temper, the effects of raids, intimate sometimes mocking
glimpses of his family. It traces the development of the
Kirloskar group of industries, one of the pioneering
industrial organisations in India. Apart from giving
information about the diverse activity of the Kirloskar
group, the film also features personal statements from the
grand old man of the Indian industry, Mr. S. L. Kirloskar.
This film won a National Award in Direction.

The film is an evocative exploration of Amul in the life
of the people; its everyday importance, its scale of
production, quality controls and marketing and distribution.
Amul has become the synonym for milk and butter in the
country.
