`Bhoomi' was a weekly television series on the
environment, sponsored by the Ministry of Environment and
Forests 200 episodes of which were telecast on National
Network. `Bhoomi' strived to raise environmental consciousness
by focusing on the efforts of the people individuals,
community groups, corporate houses, NGOs and the Govt. to
protect, preserve and enhance the quality of India's
environment. The show featured stories on the spread of
pollution, conservation of endangered flora and fauna, methods
for the optimum utilization of scarce resources, energy
effective housing technologies, afforestation, agriculture,
environmental education, waste management, community
development and ancient environmental wisdom that is relevant
today. Media personalities like Jackie Shroff, Ashutosh
Gowariker, Milind Soman and Kavita Krishnamurthy have featured
on the show. Renowned television personality Manini De was the
main show anchor. The show rapidly ascended the popularity
charts and attracted an eclectic mix of viewers from
environment enthusiasts, collegians, environment conscious
corporates, informing and creating awareness amongst
housewives as well as a cross section of young people from
small towns and villages all over India.
